Customized trip – Everest Base Camp Hiking

Basic travel information

The Everest Base Camp hiking trail runs through small sherpa villages and Buddhist monasteries to the legendary Mount Everest base camp. Accommodation for hiking takes place in hiking lodges run by locals. The ascent to the base camp takes a total of eleven days.

The trip culminates in the ascent to the ridge of Kala Pathar (5545 m), which offers spectacular views of Mount Everest and other snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas.

Itinerary

DAY 1 – KATHMANDU

Airport transfer to the hotel. In the evening there is the opportunity to make last minute purchases for hiking.

NOTE: Hotel accommodation according to international practice from 14:00. If your flight arrives in the morning, when booking your trip, select the day before arrival as the arrival date.

DAY 2 – LUKLA – PHAKDING

An early flight to Lukla, where our hike begins. Our equipment will be transferred to our sher carriers. Overnight in Phakding village (2610 m). (A)

DAY 3 – NAMCHE BAZAAR

We ascend through the pine and spruce forest sherpa capital, Namche Bazaar (3450 m).

DAY 4 – NAMCHE BAZAAR

We get used to the thin atmosphere by taking a few hours walk to the vantage point above the city from where there is a magnificent view of the Everest massif

DAY 5 – PHORTSE

The route of the day begins at about 2h with a steady transition to Sanasa, after which we ascend a calm and airy route to Mong La Pass, where we will have lunch. We descend to Phortse Thanga, from where about an hour ascent to the village of Phortse (3840 m). The scenery of the Kang Tega and Gokyo Valley glaciers is bold.

DAY 6 – PANGBOCHE

One of the most beautiful hiking trails takes us high above the Imja Khola River to the village of Pangboche (3860 m), one of the highest year-round villages in the Everest region.

DAY 7 – DINGBOCHE

Our route rises steadily over the tree line to the village of Dingboche (4410 m) at the beginning of the Khumbu Valley. We get used to the thin atmosphere and take a trip to the village of Chukung (4730 m), located at the foot of the impressive three-kilometer south wall of Lhotse. Island Peak appears from Chukung for the first time.

DAY 8 – DINGBOCAHE

At this altitude, it is good to get another rest period to adjust, just relax or enjoy a nice day trip to Chukung overlooking the Imja valleys and Lhotse face.

DAY 9 – DUGHLA

Short hike to Dughla (4600 m). In the afternoon, the opportunity to ascend to the edge of the Khumbu Glacier, which offers stunning views of the upper valley.

DAY 10 – LOBUCHE

Following the Khumbu Glacier, we ascend to the barren village of Lobuche (4910 m). In the afternoon the opportunity to climb to the edge of the glacier to admire the huge stream of ice.

DAY 11 – GORAKSHEP

We continue our journey following the Khumbu Glacier to Gorakshep (5140 m), which once served as a grazing ground for jackets. Opportunity to ascend the ridge of Kala Pathar (5545 m), which offers the best views of the summit of Everest and the base camp.

DAY 12 – EVEREST BASE CAMP AND PHERICHE

We wake up early and start the journey following the edge of the glacier and finally along the Khumbu Glacier itself to Everest Base Camp (5360 m). In the spring, Base Camp is full of climbers and the sherpas assisting them as they prepare to ascend to the top of Mount Everest. The views of Khumbu Icefall are breathtaking. We return the same route to Gorakshep and continue to land at Pheriche for the night.

DAY 13 – NAMCHE BAZAAR

We continue our return towards Namche Bazaar, passing all the villages where we stayed on the ascent. The day trip is about 20km long, but the foot rises comfortably when the nose is downhill. In the evening, the opportunity for a Finnish sauna!

DAY 14 – PHAKDING

We enjoy Namche’s morning in complete peace and still make the final gift purchases. After lunch, we begin a long downhill and transition to Phakding.

DAY 15 – LUKLA

The last day’s hike is short, but ends with a fine ascent to the Lukla Gate. We will have a joint dinner with the plaintiffs at the inn and say goodbye to them at the end of the evening.

DAY 16 – KATHMANDU

We fly from Lukla to the human bustle of Kathmandu.

DAY 17 – KATHMANDU

We visit the Buddhist stupa of Boudhanath in Kathmandu and the Hindu temple in Pashupatinath. Overnight in Kathmandu. (A)
