Representations of Great Britain in Germany

The current embassy building was built on the site of the old British embassy, which was damaged by bombs during the war and completely destroyed by fire after the war. The remains were later removed by the GDR authorities, and the property was fallow until 1998. The plans for today’s embassy building come from the architecture firm Michael Wilford & Partners, London and Stuttgart, which had previously won a competition. The embassy was then officially inaugurated on July 18, 2000 by Queen Elizabeth II. The building is located at the beginning of Wilhelmstrasse in the immediate vicinity of the Brandenburg Gate. This part of the street is closed to motor vehicle traffic for safety reasons.

Great Britain Embassies in Germany

Climate

The British Isles tend to have a relatively mild climate throughout the year. Deep foothills that come from the Atlantic ensure that temperatures in Great Britain usually do not rise above 32 °C in summer or fall below -10 °C in winter. The rainiest months are generally the winter months of January and February, but this also depends very much on regional conditions. The heaviest rainfall is in the west of the country and in the Scottish Highlands, where the annual average rainfall can be up to 1,100 liters/m². To convert from Fahrenheit to Celcius, proceed as follows:
The value 32 is subtracted from the value in Fahrenheit, since 0 °C corresponds exactly to 32 ° Fahrenheit. Then the obtained value is divided by 9 and then multiplied by 5. This is because the Fahrenheit to Celcius ratio is 9: 5.

Travel times

Because the British climate is so consistently mild, you can actually travel to the country at any time of the year. However, the idea of what is meant by a particularly favorable travel climate depends on various factors. Pure cultural travelers certainly see the climate differently than people planning a beach holiday. Health status and age can also play a role in the experience of the climate.

For winter sports
enthusiasts The Cairngorn Mountains are Britain’s most popular ski area. The ski area with a total of 28 pistes can be accessed with chairlifts at an altitude of over 1,000 m.

Climate table

The following table shows climate data for Great Britain. It should be noted that the climatic conditions in different regions of the country can sometimes differ considerably from one another and thus also from the values shown. In addition, the monthly temperature averages have little informative value with regard to the current minimum or maximum temperatures. It is possible that at average temperatures of around 20 °C, maximum values of 30 °C or more occur on some days. The table therefore only provides a general overview of the climatic conditions in Great Britain.
